ARDAA’s research in security studies is grounded in the unique security challenges facing East Africa, particularly in terms of state stability, regional cooperation, and internal conflict management. The research seeks to provide strategies for enhancing the security sector’s governance while ensuring civilian oversight and accountability.
Key research topics include:
National Security Frameworks: Developing policy frameworks to strengthen national security architectures in countries such as Ethiopia, Somaliland, and Kenya, with a focus on counterterrorism, military reform, and intelligence services governance.
Cybersecurity and Digital Governance: Researching the growing threat of cyber-attacks and offering policy recommendations to build robust cybersecurity infrastructures across the region, particularly as digital transformation accelerates.
Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding: Exploring models for conflict resolution, mediation, and peacebuilding, particularly in fragile states and areas experiencing protracted conflict. ARDAA seeks to contribute to the peace efforts by proposing reforms in peacekeeping policies and transitional justice mechanisms.
